Misinformation

Washington, DC -
While the so-called more reliable press has been busy reporting the failures of the American CIA with regard to weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, TheRealTruth has learned what really happened. We have learned that the British MI6, on whom the CIA relied for much of its information, planted misinformation about Iraqi capabilities and that the American CIA believed the planted stories!

According to a source inside British intelligence, who wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, the MI6 operation was code named Operation Mass Appeal. Its aim was to plant stories in the media about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction in order to gain public support for sanctions and the use of military force in Iraq.

This report is in agreement with recent claims by Scott Ritter, a UN weapons inspector who led 14 missions in Iraq, that MI6 had recruited him in 1997 to help with a propaganda effort. Ritter recounted several meetings where a senior MI6 officer and at least two other staff discussed ways to manipulate intelligence material. "The aim was to convince the public that Iraq was a far greater threat than it actually was," according to Ritter.

According to our source "Stories ran in the media about secret underground facilities in Iraq and ongoing programs to produce weapons of mass destruction. They were reportedly from western intelligence sources and all of them were garbage." The stories were planted in newspapers in India, Poland and South Africa from where they were fed back to the major news agencies in England and the United States.

Our source reports that MI6 succeeded with the selective use of intelligence to give the impression that Saddam either still had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to make them. This helped legitimized the sanctions and military action against Iraq in Britain. The American CIA was an unwitting partner in this deception because, incredible as it might seem, they believed the stories planted in those foreign newspapers!

Recent reports out of Iraq suggest the United States has abandoned all hope of finding weapons of mass destruction and that David Kay, head of the Iraq Survey Group, will resign earlier than expected because his resources have been diverted to tracking down insurgents.
