While the so-called more reputable press has been busy reporting the start of the flu season in the United States, TheRealTruth has learned there has been a new outbreak of the deadly ebola virus in the northwestern part of the Congo Republic. According to a source inside the World Health Organization (WHO) who wishes to remain anonymous, at least two dozen persons have died so far and several hundred others have fallen ill.

The latest outbreak occurred near Mbomo, about 450 miles northwest of the capital of Brazzaville and just across the border from Gabon. This is in the same area where the ebola virus killed over 120 persons earlier this year. Our source reports that over a hundred doctors from Medicins sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders), the World Health Organization, and the Congo Republic's health ministry have rushed to the area to try to contain the epidemic before it spreads to neighboring communities.

The WHO believes the latest outbreak started after a group of hunters ate a boar they found dead in the forest. The previous outbreak has now been confirmed by the WHO to have been caused by the consumption of infected monkey meat. Unfortunately bushmeat is a staple of the diet of forest communities in that part of Africa.

There is no known cure for ebola which is passed on by infected body fluids and kills 50 to 90 percent of its victims. The disease damages the blood vessels and causes bleeding, diarrhea, and shock. The worst outbreak to date killed more than 2500 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1995, and it is feared the latest outbreak has the potential to surpass that number.
